Save states and in-game saves are different

A save state captures a point in the emulator session. Loading it returns the running game to that point. An in-game save uses the game’s own saving system, such as a save point or a memory-card menu. Creating one does not mean you have created the other.

Use the game’s own save option when available, and treat states as another way to resume a session. Do not assume a state can be transferred between different emulators, game editions or versions. Before relying on a save method for a long playthrough, test it near the beginning of a game. If you are choosing a longer adventure, our PSP RPG recommendations compare story-led, tactical and action-focused options; test your save workflow before committing to one.

Where to find Save / Load State

Save / Load State is available from the game card in Library and the pause menu during gameplay. Use the pause menu to save the point you are currently playing; use the game card or pause menu to access loading.

Save during a game

  1. Start your game and reach a point you want to keep.
  2. Open the game’s pause menu in EMUspace.
  3. Choose Save State and follow any prompts shown in your installed version.
  4. Let the save finish before leaving the game or choosing another action.

Load a saved state

  1. Find the same game’s card in Library, or open the pause menu if the game is already running.
  2. Choose Load State and the saved point you want to resume.
  3. Check that the game resumes at the expected point before continuing.

Save before going back. Loading an older state replaces your current running session with that earlier point. Preserve any newer progress you want to keep before loading, and avoid overwriting your only useful state while testing.

How Autosave on Exit works

Autosave on Exit is an optional EMUspace Pro feature that saves the game state when you exit the game. Check that the option is enabled if you want to use it.

Test the complete cycle at a low-risk point: play briefly, exit the game normally, then check that you can resume the expected progress. Make a deliberate manual save before an important stopping point.

Exiting the game normally is different from force-closing the app, a crash or a sudden interruption. Do not rely on those events to trigger an exit save. If progress is missing, keep the app and library intact while you investigate.

Connect a Bluetooth controller to your iPhone

EMUspace supports Bluetooth game controllers compatible with iOS. External gamepad support requires EMUspace Pro. Touch controls remain available for checking whether an issue comes from the controller or the game itself.

  1. Prepare the controller. Charge it and put it into pairing mode using the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact model.
  2. Connect it to the iPhone. Pair it through the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings and confirm that it is connected.
  3. Start a short test. Open EMUspace with Pro access, launch a game and try a menu before starting a long session.
  4. Check the controls you need. Test directional input, action buttons and any sticks or shoulder buttons used by that game.

Pairing steps differ by model. A successful Bluetooth connection does not guarantee support for every special controller feature. If a button behaves unexpectedly, compare the same action with the on-screen controls and record which input fails. For game-specific practice ideas, the PSP fighting games guide suggests first-session exercises for movement, blocking and attack inputs.

If saves or controller input do not work

A save does not restore the expected progress

A connected controller does not respond

Email support@emuspace.app with your iPhone model, iOS version, EMUspace version, game title and exact steps. For controller issues, include the controller model; for saving issues, include the save method and the last point that resumed successfully. Do not delete the app or game library as a first troubleshooting step.

Common questions

Can I load a state from the game card?

Yes. Save / Load State is available in the game card and in the pause menu during gameplay.

Does Autosave on Exit replace manual saving?

It provides an automatic save when you exit the game normally with the option enabled. Keep using manual saves for important stopping points and test your resume workflow before relying on it.

Do Bluetooth controllers require Pro?

Yes. External gamepad support, save states and optional Autosave on Exit are EMUspace Pro features.
