EMUspace help · PS1 & PSP on iPhone
PS1 or PSP games not loading on iPhone?
Find the first step that fails in EMUspace, then work through the matching checks. A game that never reaches your library needs a different investigation from one that opens and crashes during play.

On this page
1. The game does not appear after import
Start in the iPhone Files app. Seeing a filename does not necessarily mean its download is complete. Check that the file is available locally before opening it with EMUspace.
- Check the source file. Confirm that the download finished. If it was interrupted, obtain a complete copy from your original source and keep the previous copy until you have compared them.
- Check available storage. Leave room for the imported game and any contents extracted from an archive. A compressed file may need more space after extraction.
- Check the full set. If the game has several related files, keep them together with their original names. Do not assume the largest file is the only one needed.
- Follow the supported import route. Use the in-app How to import guide, or Open With → EMUspace for supported files and archives. Let the operation finish before starting another import.
Supported ZIP, 7z and TAR archives still need compatible game contents. Changing an extension does not convert a file or repair it. For more detail, use the game import guide.
Record: the file extension, approximate size, whether it came from a cloud folder, and the exact import message. These details help identify a file-access problem without guessing at playback settings.
2. The game appears but shows a black screen
Note what happens after opening the game card: no picture at all, a logo followed by a black screen, a frozen menu, or a return to the library. These observations are more useful than “it does not work.”
- Check the intended system. Confirm that your file is for PS1 or PSP and that you followed the appropriate setup guide.
- Check completeness. A library card is not proof that every part of the original disc image is present or that the game is fully compatible.
- Read any BIOS message literally. EMUspace describes BIOS import as optional and does not bundle BIOS files. If the app reports a BIOS issue, follow its guidance for a file you are authorized to use. A black screen by itself does not establish that BIOS is the cause.
- Compare only if you already have another compatible game. If that game starts, report that difference. It can help narrow the investigation, but it does not prove the failing game file is damaged.
Use the PS1 setup guide for related disc files and BIOS, or the PSP setup guide for a handheld-game setup checklist.
3. The game crashes, freezes or loses audio
Try to identify a repeatable point: loading a particular level, entering a menu, playing a cutscene or resuming a saved session. Note whether the picture stops while sound continues, the whole app closes, or only one control stops responding.
- Write down the starting conditions. Record your iPhone model, iOS version, EMUspace version and the game’s region or revision if known.
- Review recent changes. If the problem began after enabling cheats or changing an option, record that change. Disable the relevant cheat for a test when you can do so without losing progress; cheat compatibility can depend on the game version.
- Change one thing at a time. Repeat the same short section after each change. Avoid changing several options together, because you will not know which affected the result.
- Distinguish a fresh launch from resuming a state. If the problem occurs only after loading a state, include that in your report. Keep the state and other progress intact while investigating.
For a PS1 backup with several related track files, confirm that the original set is complete. For inconsistent sound, also note your current audio destination, such as the iPhone speaker or a connected device. Compatibility and performance vary by game and device, so there is no single setting that fixes every title.
If the problem is a save or controller
A game that runs but does not resume the expected progress needs a save check. Specify whether you used the game’s own save system, a save state or autosave. Do not overwrite your only remaining save while testing.
For a controller problem, compare the affected action with touch input. Note the controller model, connection status and which buttons fail. External gamepads and save-state features require EMUspace Pro. Continue with the save-state and controller guide.
Send a report that support can reproduce
Copy this checklist into an email to support@emuspace.app. A screenshot of the actual error can help; leave out unrelated personal information.
- Device: iPhone model, iOS version, EMUspace version.
- Game: title, PS1 or PSP, region or revision if known.
- Files: extensions, archive type and approximate size.
- Failure: import, launch, gameplay or loading a save.
- Steps: what you did, what you expected and what happened.
- Checks tried: one line for each change and its result.
Start with the description and error screenshot. There is no need to attach game or BIOS files to the initial report.
