Twisted Metal 2 PS1 Cheats: Characters and Secret Arenas
Twisted Metal 2 uses different input screens for different cheats. Character codes belong on vehicle selection, secret arenas belong on the two-player battleground screen, and the God Mode combination is entered during play. The table you use matters as much as the buttons. This guide covers built-in codes for the original PS1 game.

Unlock Minion and Sweet Tooth
Go to the vehicle-selection screen and enter one sequence at a time. These are successive button presses; L1 is a single press here, not an instruction to hold a shoulder button throughout the code.
| Character | Vehicle-selection code |
|---|---|
| Minion | L1, Up, Down, Left |
| Sweet Tooth | Up, L1, Triangle, Right |
The original references describe a confirmation sound. After entering a code, cycle through the vehicles to find the added choice. A character unlock is not a password for a particular stage, so do not enter it in the campaign-password interface.
If you want to compare the game's place in the console's library before choosing a vehicle, our PS1 games guide provides the broader view. Twisted Metal's arena battles are a different driving challenge from the races covered in our PS1 racing selection.
God Mode during gameplay
With the match running and not paused, hold all four shoulder buttons: L1 + L2 + R1 + R2. While holding them, press this directional sequence:
Up, Down, Left, Right, Right, Left, Down, Up
The contemporary RWhite FAQ documents this combination as granting unlimited weapons, turbo and energy, while warning that falling hazards can still kill the vehicle. “God Mode” is therefore not a reason to drive off every edge without consequence.
The distinction between holding and pressing is essential. Keep the shoulder buttons held while entering the directions; do not treat them as the first four taps of a longer sequence. Check that all four shoulder inputs are mapped separately if you are using a different physical controller.
Use a familiar arena when trying it. That lets you recognize the changed resources without also learning an unfamiliar vehicle and terrain. If your aim is to improve ordinary survival, return to the normal rules after inspecting the effect.
Three secret two-player battlegrounds
These codes are for the original game's two-player Challenge battleground-selection screen. They are not general single-player level-select codes.
| Arena | Battleground-selection code |
|---|---|
| Cyburbia | Down, Up, L1, R1 |
| Jet Moto track | Up, Down, Right, R1 |
| Rooftops | Down, Left, R1, Down |
The mode requirement explains a common failure: the right combination on the vehicle screen is still in the wrong place. Return to battleground selection before trying an arena code again.
These instructions describe modes in the original game. Whether a particular emulator or app provides the required second-controller setup is a separate question. Do not interpret a two-player game code as an announcement of online or local multiplayer support in EMUspace.
Check the controller before changing the code
PS1 has two shoulder buttons on each side. L1 and L2 are not alternative spellings for the same input. The directional pad also needs to send distinct Up, Down, Left and Right presses. If the sequence repeatedly fails, verify those controls rather than replacing the code with a similar-looking PC entry.
Our controller setup guide can help you think through physical versus mapped buttons. For a reversible practice session, keep an ordinary game save or known starting point; the save-system guide explains the difference between normal progress and a snapshot.
Common questions
Where do I type GLORIOUS or other words?
Those belong to PC cheat lists, not the PS1 controller sequences shown here. Check the platform label on an aggregated cheats page.
Why did Minion not appear during a match?
His code is entered at vehicle selection. It adds a selectable character; it does not transform your current vehicle in mid-battle.
Does God Mode protect against falls?
The original FAQ explicitly preserves that hazard. Unlimited resources do not remove the arena's boundaries.
Can I use the secret arenas in the campaign?
The listed arena combinations are documented for two-player Challenge. They are not campaign stage passwords.
Are these GameShark codes?
No. They use the original game's own input handling. No external cheat-device support is assumed.
