Tekken 3 PS1 Unlockables: Build the Full Roster
Most Tekken 3 PS1 characters are unlocked by clearing Arcade with different fighters; Gon and Dr. Bosconovitch have additional routes. Work through the roster methodically and save your progress. You do not need to paste a GameShark address or search for a universal unlock-all password to use the built-in methods below.

Use the PlayStation version of the requirements
This guide concerns the original home-console Tekken 3. Arcade-board instructions and later Tekken games have different character-selection rules. Even a page headed “Tekken 3” can mix platforms, so check labels beside a code before using it.
If you are choosing between series entries, our PS1 fighting-game comparison explains the broader options. The unlock process here belongs to Tekken 3, not the PSP games covered in Dark Resurrection versus Tekken 6.
Unlock the main hidden roster through Arcade
Clear Arcade with a different character each time and keep a record of completed fighters. The established unlock order is:
| Different-character clears | New roster entry |
|---|---|
| 1 | Kuma / Panda |
| 2 | Julia Chang |
| 3 | Gun Jack |
| 4 | Mokujin |
| 5 | Anna Williams |
| 6 | Bryan Fury |
| 7 | Heihachi Mishima |
| 8 | Ogre |
| 9 | True Ogre |
This is a useful reason to try the starting roster rather than repeatedly clearing with your strongest fighter. AlienD100's 1998 codes FAQ describes the different-character progression, and the contemporary CMurdock FAQ corroborates the order.
After a clear, return to character selection and verify the new entry. Then save before ending the session. A short checklist prevents you from wondering whether a fighter was merely practiced or actually used to finish Arcade.
Two built-in ways to unlock Gon
Survival method: earn a score that lets you enter the ranking initials, then enter GON. The name belongs on the Survival ranking screen; entering it elsewhere is not the same procedure.
Tekken Ball method: unlock Tekken Ball, face Gon and defeat him. The first Ball encounter is the straightforward opportunity described by the original-game guides. If you are pursuing the Survival route, focus first on reaching the name-entry screen rather than typing the word during a match.
The PS1 submissions and Kittylord's original move-list guide both describe Gon routes. This is a genuine in-game initials method, unlike a hexadecimal cheat-device code. It changes the roster without requiring a separate memory editor.
Dr. Bosconovitch takes four Tekken Force runs
Complete Tekken Force three times to collect its three keys. Then play through a fourth time. After the normal final-stage boss, the additional encounter leads to Dr. Bosconovitch; defeat him to make him selectable.
The first three completions are preparation for that final encounter. They do not need to be squeezed into one sitting if the progress is saved. CMurdock's contemporary FAQ describes the key sequence and the fourth-run fight, and the PlayStation unlockable list confirms the same route.
Choose a fighter whose simple attacks you can perform reliably. The mode asks you to manage groups and the clock, so a long combo that repeatedly fails is a poor tool for learning the route. Practice a short, dependable response to enemies approaching from different positions, then build from that.
When you reach the doctor, pay attention to his unusual low posture rather than assuming every familiar attack will connect. Use the attempt to learn the matchup if necessary. A saved route to the encounter is more valuable than rushing it with a character you cannot control comfortably.
Unlock extra modes without losing track
Completing Arcade with the ten starting characters is the usual path to Tekken Ball and Theater. Some references also document unlocks based on accumulated character usage, which can make a well-used save appear to unlock content out of your expected order.
For a clean first-time plan, finish the starting roster and check the main menu afterward. Treat usage-based alternatives as an explanation for an existing save, rather than mixing several counters into one confusing checklist. Theater unlocks and every individual ending are also different goals: opening the mode does not mean that you have already earned every movie.
Character selection can include alternatives sharing a slot. Panda is associated with Kuma rather than a completely separate early Arcade milestone. Read the selection instructions for the character you have unlocked, especially if the roster looks different from a screenshot.
A practical unlock checklist
- Begin with a normal save that loads correctly.
- Keep a list of starting characters whose Arcade endings you have reached.
- Check the new roster entry and save after each clear.
- Use the Survival initials route or Tekken Ball for Gon.
- Track the three Tekken Force keys, then complete the fourth run and doctor fight.
- Reopen the save before a long break to confirm the progress you wanted is retained.
Keep a backup before experimenting with imported saves or unrelated cheat lists. The save-state comparison explains why a temporary emulator state and normal game progress should not be confused.
Common questions
Is there a typed password that unlocks everyone?
This guide uses documented progression and the specific Gon initials method. It does not endorse unsourced “all characters” passwords circulated in mixed cheat lists.
Do I need a perfect Arcade run?
The cited roster method is based on completing Arcade with different characters. Follow that requirement rather than adding an unverified perfect-round condition.
Why does my older save already have some extras?
Previous Arcade clears, Force progress or accumulated play can explain them. Audit the save before starting a new checklist.
Can I use these requirements in PSP Tekken?
No. They belong to Tekken 3 on PS1; the later handheld games have their own progression systems.
