Driver PS1 Cheats: Unlock the Cheat Menu Options

Driver on PS1 has built-in shoulder-button codes that unlock options in its cheat menu. Enter them at the main menu, then inspect the cheat options rather than trying the sequences during a chase. This page covers the original PlayStation game, not PC text passwords, trainers or the Game Boy Color release.

How to unlock an option

  1. Return to Driver's main menu.
  2. Press the listed shoulder buttons in sequence, keeping the entry brisk and consistent.
  3. Listen for the confirmation sound.
  4. Open the cheat screen and find the option you unlocked.

Every code below uses thirteen button presses. L1 and L2 are different inputs, as are R1 and R2. Commas mean successive presses, not a chord to hold down. Read the entire row before beginning so that the repeated buttons do not catch you halfway through.

The contemporary PlayStation guides also describe completing the game as a route to the built-in cheat modes. The sequences provide a direct way to unlock individual options without treating a completed save as the only method.

Some references use a descriptive effect name while others use the menu's playful label. The paired names above refer to the same corresponding option, not additional combinations you must enter.

Which option is useful for practice?

No damage is useful when you want to inspect a route without the same vehicle-damage pressure. It does not teach you to avoid contact, so treat that as a different practice exercise from completing a clean run.

No police changes the chase conditions. It suits a relaxed look at the streets, but it cannot show you how an ordinary pursuit will unfold. For a fair comparison, use the same road and car before and after changing an option.

Rear-wheel steering, stilts and the upside-down screen are novelty experiments. Try them separately first. Switching on several changes at once may be entertaining, but it makes the source of unusual handling harder to understand.

Mini cars deserve a specific caveat: Coller's original PlayStation guide reports that collision detection still behaves as though the vehicles were normal-sized. Do not assume a smaller visible car can fit through every smaller-looking gap.

Why a PC or Game Boy code is different

Driver code pages often aggregate several platforms. A text password such as SSHELLY belongs to a PC list, while a sequence involving Game Boy A and B buttons is a different release again. Neither is a substitute for a thirteen-press PS1 shoulder-button row.

The original game is also distinct from later Driver titles. If your search result discusses another city list, another protagonist or a different generation of console, check the heading before using its instructions. Our PS1 driving and racing guide helps place the original among its contemporaries.

If the menu does not change

Return to the main menu and start the sequence over. Check that each shoulder button is mapped independently and that a repeated input is registering as a second press. Avoid holding a trigger down when the code calls for two taps.

Once the confirmation occurs, inspect the cheat menu before starting a new drive. Unlocking an option and choosing how to use it are separate steps. The controller setup guide can help with the input side, while our save guide helps keep an experiment apart from ordinary progress.

Common questions

Do I enter these while driving?

No. The referenced PS1 codes are main-menu inputs that unlock cheat options.

Are they only for the European game?

The contemporary ADean guide explicitly covers PAL and NTSC PlayStation versions, and the separate PS1 references match the sequences.

Do I need a trainer?

No. These are built into the original PlayStation game.

Does this skip the opening interview?

The table does not include an interview-skip code. Do not copy a PC password into PS1 instructions.

Where can I find more games from this era?

Our PS1 library guide offers a broader selection beyond driving.
